Game Level Reports – By Team Lookup

The Game level By Team Lookup report is found in the GAME LEVEL – LOOKUP section of reports. This report is best to see data on an individual team and how they compare to the rest of the league in situations not possible when just looking at season level stats. It is meant to show information on a team all at once, without needing to load separate charts for different areas of their game.

Game Level reports can tell you statistics at any point within the regular season or playoffs since 2005, but certain data points (such as OBP and SLG) are unavailable before the 2016 season. As a result, all Game Level reports will by default only show from the 2016 season on, though this can be expanded with certain limitations. See the LIMITATIONS section for more information.

NAVIGATION

Upon launch you will already see data load for the default selected team (the Fukuoka Softbank Hawks, in honor of their 2020 Japan Series victory).

FILTERS

Filters are options that allow you to customize the report to only show what you want.

NOTE: If you are viewing these reports on a mobile device such as an iPad, you will need to click twice to set a filter. Once to navigate “into” the filter options, and a second time to make any selections.

Team

A team can be selected by clicking on the Team button and clicking the team.

Game

You can filter the data by Game Type and by Ballpark. You can search for Ballparks by either their Japanese or English/Romaji names.

Date

Game Level reports allow us to customize specific date ranges or even specific days of the week. You could see how a player performs on Friday the 13ths if you’d like. Note that by default the report only shows from the 2016 season on (though it can be expanded with certain limitations).

The remaining options at the top are an INFO button which details data specific precautions or limitations, a RESET button to always return to default settings, a LAST UPDATED visual showing the most recent data that has been added to the report, and a NIGHT MODE toggle.

LAYOUT

The first set of charts (on batting and pitching) will show cumulative statistics on the selected team separated only by regular season or playoff series.

Following these two charts will be another set of two charts but split up by year. These charts will ONLY show stats on the regular season each year.

The final section of the report is a number of line charts comparing the currently selected team against the league average in that specific metric (e.g., the first line chart is for Batting Average).  There is a filter defaulted to show just these stats against the regular season, though you can expand it to include the playoffs as well (or only show the playoffs or a particular series).

NOTE: Refer to the LEAGUE AVERAGE section below for information on what criteria determine what the league average is.

LEAGUE AVERAGE

All Game Level reports will calculate a league average that varies based on what filters are being used. Filters that affect league averages include:

  • Game Filters
    • Game Type
    • Ballpark
  • Date Filters
    • Date Range
    • Year
    • Month
    • Day
    • Day of Week

Ignored filters include:

  • Team filters
  • Player filters
  • Versus filters

As an example, if you filter to only show data for the Softbank Hawks from the month of June, the league average will look at how ALL teams performed in the month of June.

LIMITATIONS

The Game Level reports show data from the 2005 season on, but they do not contain all data points that you can get at the season level, especially before the 2016 season. If you are including data from before the 2016 season then the charts showing affected data points will be shaded in red. In the screenshot below we are showing batting stats since 2015. Plate Appearances (PA), among others, are not available prior to the 2016 season at an individual game level, and so the relevant rows (and the total PA) are shaded in red indicating that the relevant data is missing or the total is misleading.
